Torrent :
In the BitTorrent file distribution system, a torrent file is a computer file that contains metadata about files and folders to be distributed, and usually also a list of the network locations of trackers, which are computers that help participants in the system find each other and form efficient distribution groups.
( Taken from en.wikipedia.org )
so basically torrent (bittorrent) is used to share files. ( can even support files upto 100gb or more ).
but how does a torrent works?
If you want to download something from torrent, you need a torrent software. There are many torrent softwares including BitTorrent,UTorrent e.t.c. once you have the required torrent software, you can start downloading and uploading through torrent.
Most people think that torrent is a website/server from where they download files through torrent software(bittorrent). But its not the case. Each and every bittorrent user is itself a server. First I'll explain some of the terms of torrent.
Peers & seeders :
peers are users which are currently downloading a torrent ( through torrent client) and didn't finished the torrent yet. Seeders are users which have successfully downloaded the torrent. But the question remains, where does the torrent gets the files. The answer is simple, Ever user who is connected to a torrent ( downloading or seeding it ) uploads and downloads that torrent. So If you just created a torrent, send the file to your friend. Then your friend will downlaod the file from you. Because you are the only seeder ( the person who have complete file ). You might have heard people saying "please seed the torrent". More seeds the torrent have means more people are on that torrent who have completed the torrent. Torrent client connects to different peers and seeders at once to download it high speed. Even peers ( who are currently downloading the torrent, have not completed the torrent ) upload the files they have downloaded to other peers.
But how does torrent client connect to these peers and seeders?

To connect to seeders and peers, torrent client use tracker. Tracker is a server which keeps tracks of different information i.e. how many files a torrent have, their size and different info. It also keeps the track of how many peers and seeders a torrent have and provides the torrent client the ip (for connection to them) of seeders and peers. Through which you can start downloading the torrent.
openbittorrent.com is a open bittorrent tracker which is mostly used as tracker. but there are many trackers. Its better to use more than one tracker while creating torrent for better syncing of seeders and peers.

How to use it?
Simply open .torrent file with bittorrent and start downloading! just like opening a music file in media player. Make sure the torrent have enough seeds so you can download it. If a torrent dosn't have seeds then you will never be able to download the complete torrent files. To create a torrent. Click File > Create Torrent. Fill the form and add tracker and Thats it! Now you can send the torrent file or magnet url to your friend. The speed of the torrent will depend on seeder. If you have a normal 1mb shared connection then you will have aprox. 25kb/s upload speed, thats the speed your torrent downloader will have, unless the torrent have more seeders.
