[Tutorial] Move games from one computer to another

Backup and Restore Games :

This method takes quite some time to copy games. We will use steam's "Backup and Restore Games" Option. Basically, you will backup your game and steam will create some compressed files so you can copy them over to some portable usb or hard drive and move files over to other computer and use restore option. You can also select DVD/CD so your files will split after 4.7GB/700MB. Then you can write those files in DVDs and keep backup of games.

Instructions :

  • First open backup and restore by Steam  > Backup and Restore Games...

  • Select "Backup currently installed programs" and click Next
  • Now select the required games that you want to copy and click Next
  • Select Backup destination and click Next
  • Now you can split you backup files here. If you are using CD/DVD then you can select the required option for them or else you can select custom.
  • Now you are done! you can copy the files and use restore option from this wizard and install backup games

Other Method (Not recommended) : 

  • Right click on a game on steam and click Properties 
  • select Local files from tabs
  • click Browse Local files
  • steam\steamapps\common\(name of game) will open. You need to copy this folder.
  • Now paste it in steam\steamapps\common\ in other computer
  • you might need to verify game's integrity and game should be working
